“Somehow we have to get older people back close to growing children if we are to restore a sense of community, a knowledge of the past, and a sense of the future.”

Margaret Mead

At Andrus on Hudson, we have recognized the benefits of Intergenerational Programs for a long time. For the past five years Babies & Grands Music classes have been held here. We also offer volunteer opportunities and internships to young people including those at Greenburgh Northcastle School with a classroom right in our building. Little Leaf Nursery School is also housed in our building and is currently in their third year. After a successful summer camp, Hudson Lab School has begun classes here. The benefits to our seniors include improved health, increased connectedness and less isolation, and enhanced feelings of self-worth. The benefits to youth include increased self esteem and self-worth, improved behavior, appreciation for older people and an enhanced sense of belonging in their communities. There are also benefits to the community including enhanced awareness and appreciation of cultural heritage and traditions, increased collaboration between local organizations, and more vibrant and cohesive communities.
